Chinese comprised more than 20% of the 11.9 million people who identified themselves as Asians in Census 2000, according to a report released by the Commerce Department’s Census Bureau.

Note: According to Census 2000, of all the people who reported as Asian, 49% lived in the West; 20% in the Northeast;
19% in the South; and 12% in the Midwest. Chinese constituted the largest Asian group, with Filipino and Asian
